Tax-Savvy Ways to Give
Give From Your IRA
Qualified Charitable Distribution
What is a QCD?
A QCD is a direct transfer of funds from your IRA to a qualified charity. QCD’s are also commonly referred to as an IRA charitable rollover.
QCD gifts support the over 30,000 people in Michigan battling Parkinson’s disease. To qualify for a QCD:
- You must be age 70.5 or older at the time of the gift
- The total gift amount must be below $108,000 per year
- If you are older than 73, your QCD will count towards your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD)
Please note: the funds must be distributed by your RMD deadline (generally December 31)
Why Make a QCD?
- You pay no income taxes on the gift
- You can reduce your taxable income and lower your adjusted gross income (AGI), potentially avoiding a higher tax bracket
- Every dollar you donate will support the Parkinson’s community in Michigan
*Tip: Many retirement plan administrators do not notify charities about IRA/QCD transfers. Please let us know when you have initiated a gift so that we can thank you appropriately!
