|2013 Okemos Walk-a-thon 5K Run Results||
The fourth annual I Gave My Sole For Parkinson's Walkathon & 5K Run was held at Okemos High School stadium and cross country field on Saturday, September 21, 2013. This was the largest event held thus far with over 500 participants and volunteers. 88 people participated in the 5K Run, which was organized by Sam Reale and Brian Cooper.
More than $39,500 was raised for the Walkathon & 5K Run - another record! These funds will directly benefit people with PD and their families throughout the state, and the Lansing Support Group will be identifying a new initiative to address this year.
Highlights included salutes to the four Honorary Chairs: Peter Hasbrook (MPF Board member and active on the planning committee of the Lansing Support Group), Rep. Joan Bauer (joined by her husband, Doug Langham, who has PD), Dr. James Potchen (recently retired from MSU - he developed the Department of Radiology and has been diagnosed with PD), and Denise Van Etten, RN (Nurse Coordinator of MSU's Movement Disorder Clinic and member of MPF's Professional Advisory Board). Emcee Brandie Yates of HOM and CAM TV encouraged everyone to keep on going - and people didn't want to stop! Ben Dilday and friend entertained the crowd, along with music by guitarist Robert McCloy and DJ James Jablonski. We were honored that the SOMEKO Singers sang the National Anthem, and Michelle's Dance Troupe warmed us up. The Walkathon & 5K run was not only a lot of fun, but a great success!
Congratulations to all who participated! Photographs, taken by Subi Bhandari of Subi's Photography are available for viewing and downloading.
We will be holding our fifth annual Okemos Walkathon & 5K Run next year in the same location - date is being determined.
